RD Update February 2022

World

  1. The CAR/CAT/SPAD is available for review at www.na.org/conferenceA “tape-bound” SPAD will be available for purchase from NAWS for $10.
  2. If the RCMs would like us to workshop the CAR motions, virtually, or in person, you need to let us know what you want. Otherwise, we’ll be looking for your groups’ votes at the April RSC.
  3. The Virtual Interim WSC will be Friday-Saturday two weekends in a row, April 22-23 and April 29-30

WSZF

The Zonal Forum was held in Phoenix from Jan 27-30th. I have attached a copy of our report to the WSZF.

I am including some of my notes for information that I feel is most pertinent. Hopefully between myself and Carl we will capture the major highlights.

CAR Motions:

  1. CAR Review with World Board Members attending virtually
    1. Motion 1: FIPT Moratorium Extension
      1. If the moratorium is not extended it will expire in 2022.
    2. Motion 2: Extension of HRP and 1 Cofacilitator service timeframes by 1 year (set to expire 2022)
      1. HRP and Cofacs serve for 2 conferences… because of the 1 year extension to the conference, they would not serve for the full term, and we would be short of these trusted servants coming into the 2023 conference.
    3. Motion 3: Extension of 3 World Board Member service timeframes by 1 year (set to expire in 2022)
      1. Board members service for a period of 6 years. Typically when a board member cycles out, there is the opportunity to elect a replacement in the same timeframe.
    4. Motion 4: Fellowship Approval of Spiritual Principle a Day Book
      1. Revisions can be presented up until voting on the book takes place. If the book is approved, any other revisions would need to be presented and voted on in the CAR.
    5. Motion 5: Approval of NAWS, Inc. 2022-2023 Budget
      1. NAWS, Inc. is required to have an approved budget for every conference cycle. Because the WSC was pushed out by 1 year, and additional 1 year approved budget is needed.
    6. Fellowship Survey on Virtual Meetings: 80% of respondents said virtual groups should be recognized as NA groups by NAWS.
  2. Reports
    1. Almost every Region is hosting a live convention this year.
    2. Arizona reported that Jails/Prisons are providing inmates with tablets, and that they have arranged for NA literature to be provided on the tablets for free, but not book length literature.
    3. IT Workgroup reported growth in use of the Zonal BMLT server
      1. Motion, buy equipment for ongoing Hybrid hosting of WSZF – voted no, didn’t pass
      2. Motion, fund the IT Workgroup chair to attend yearly WSZF – voted yes, passed
      3. IT Workgroup will be conducting a technology survey of the Regions to see if there are additional areas where they can provide value to the Regions.
    4. A Sponsorship Behind the Walls workgroup was created which will be providing resources and connecting regions with experienced committees and/or members who can assist with establishing or growing SBTW.
    5. Discussed process for seating new Regions at WSZF (there may be a split coming in Arizona) and ultimate asked the Guidelines Workgroup to review and make suggestions.
    6. Discussed resources for Regions and Areas regarding 501.3c and Small Nonprofit filings
    7. The workgroup for Revitalizing H&I and PR/PI was reinstated. They would love to schedule time to present ideas to Region and/or Areas.
    8. The US Zones service body is moving forward slowly – we need to weigh in as to whether we want the Zone to continue to participate.
    9. Pacific Cascade Region volunteered to host the 2023 WSZF in Portland.

CIRNA’s $300 donation to Western States Zonal Forum was mailed to the WSZF facilitator.

Budget and Expenses

We received $1393.47 for WSZF. I am still waiting for the hotel to charge my card for the room, which, based on additional charges for parking etc., I anticipate to be higher than the originally budgeted $523.47.

I budgeted for 750 miles at the 2021 IRS rate of 56¢ per mile. Our actual mileage was 763.8 miles. The IRS has released their 2022 rates, and mileage is now at 58.5¢. Our guidelines state reimbursement at “current rate”, so I’m looking for some guidance as to which rate you’d like me to use (it’s about $20 difference).

I will submit a final report next month as well as our budget for 2022.
