Regional Delegate Report - July, 2007
It looks like a busy month for Gene and myself. We visited the Lower Desert Area meeting last month and also attended the meeting before the meeting concerning their areas division. I was impressed with the unity and spirituality in the room. I regret that due to a family commitment I will be unable to attend the GMA meeting this month as planned instead I would like to reschedule that for September. Gene and I are gearing up for the WSZF in 2 weeks so again I would like to invite anyone that wants to come and watch, please do so. I am also looking forward to the return of our convention next week and would like to thank the convention committee in advance for all of their hard work.
The NAWS news reported that the world board met in San Diego last april. They had an interactive discussion with Greg Muth, executive director of Alchoholics Annonymous that centered on their donations system, communications throughout their fellowship, literature publishing and distribution, their specialized focus with professionals, and their cooperation with al-anon. This session helped us to gain a perspective on interacting with professionals in our public relations efforts, to consider new avenues of member donations, and to better understand cooperation as it relates to Nar- Anon. The board approved the introduction and preface to the Basic Text for the approval draft. They continued discussion with the personal stories and the gaps they believe exist in the stories. The workgroup had their final meeting in June and will be finalizing the approval draft in july with the approval draft available to the fellowship by sept 1st. At WSC 2006 a motion "allow the world board to develop and approve service-related information pamphlets and tools for distribution to the fellowship" passed. So they anticipate completeing Atmosphere of Recovery, Medication and the NA Group, Leadership, The Benefits of Service, and What is NAWS in the near future and make them available to the fellowship. Just a reminder WCNA 32 is in San Antonio, Texas Labor Day weekend you can go to na.org to register and get more info. Registration is also now available for a Unity Day telephone hookup from San Antonio on Sunday Sept. 2nd. Go to na.org for more info. Naws also attended Workshops/Conventions in Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Asia Pacific Forum, Kathmandu, and Pokhara, Mexico, and a Youth Convention in Quebec. They also attended the European Delegates Meeting, Central California's Convention, a Spanish speaking convention in New York, MARLCNA, in Pennsylvania, the Florida Symposium, and are planning on attending the WSZF this month here in Ontario. All of this information is available plus more in the NAWS News which is available on-line at na.org. As of this morning I have not received any requests for any info other than Area divisions be brought back from the Forum this month. So if there are is any information you would like me to gather from our member regions please contact me either by phone, e-mail, or thru our website before the 19th of July.
One other item I would like to report is that the World Pool Information Form has been reduced to a 2 page document now. I have not personally looked at the new form yet but intend to be filling one out in the near future. By filling out the form it will put you in a pool of members willing to be of service to NAWS. The members that are involved in the formation of news literature, or any workgroup that is formed are brought together from this pool. So if you or anyone in your areas are interested in being a part of this process please direct them to fill out a form.
